Arthur Mandelko, 24-vuotias Teräsmies-fani, onnistui pakastamaan itsensä hengiltä. Vuokraisäntä mainitsi poliisille, että Mandelko oli herättänyt naapureissa närää käytöksellään. Hän oli hyppinyt iltaisin katolta toiselle, eivätkä asukkaat olleet järin ihastuneita jyskeeseen. Poliisi esitti teorian, että Mandelko oli aikonut murtautua jääkaapista käyttämällä hyväkseen Teräsmiehen polttavan kuumaa röntgenkatsetta, mutta suunnitelmassa meni ilmeisesti jotakin vikaan.
