Personal Essay, by Alisa M, Canada 2008 -

The summer sure started different from my previous ones; I celebrated the ending of school with a load of people I had never met before. The only one I knew was my oldest and best friend, Frida. She is the second from the left, standing behind me with her head bent down. It is as if, in this picture, we are the same person, which is not far from the truth. We have been best friends since we both were two years old, and she is still the one person I can tell anything and everything.
The other two girls are two of FridaÂ’s friends, now also my friends. I met them for the first time this evening, but in spite of that, I luckily did not feel like an outsider. When I look at this picture I do not see only the people in it, but I get the feeling of belonging and happiness that I felt back then. I knew that this would be a good evening and night, and that, even though I would maybe not meet these people again, I would still remember them.
