"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

Taas, taas yksi hevipioneeri potkaisee tyhjää. Tässä vuosien varrella olen saanut seurata, kuinka kaikki musiikilliset esikuvani/vaikuttajani kohtaavat loppunsa. Brad Delp, Johnny Cash, Syd Barrett, Richard Wright, James Brown, Juice Leskinen, The Rev, Michael Jackson and so on... Osa heistä kuoli nuorina, osa iäkkäinä, osa sortui itsemurhaan ja osa sai nukkua pois rauhallisesti kotonaan. Ronnie James Dio oli yksi niistä, kuka sai heittää lusikkansa nurkkaan rauhassa, läheisten seurassa. Se ei tosin tee tästä traagisesta menetyksestä yhtään helpommin nieltävää.

Dio oli jo 67, ja oli saanut elää jo pitkän ja vauhdikkaan elämän, mutta kun kuulin eilen illalla vatsasyövän viimein nujertaneen metallijumalan,.. se otti todella koville, kaikesta huolimatta. Viime joulun alla, eli noin puoli vuotta sitten tästä hetkestä, suunnitelmissani oli mennä seuraamaan Dion soolokeikkaa Kaapelitehtaalle. Olin innoissani. Liput ja kaikki oli valmiina, mutta viikko tai pari konserttia ennen, gigin ilmoitettiin peruuntuneen.

Kuulin että hra oli joutunut sairaalaan, syövän seurauksena. Olin takuuvarma ettei se metallijumalaa kaataisi.. Toisin kävi. Näin jälkiviisaana voin kuitenkin olla onnellinen, että näin Heaven & Hellin med Dio (3.6.09) edes kerran livenä, ja luojan kiitos kuulin Heaven & Hellin (kappaleen) livenä.. <3

En enää edes voi muistaa milloin ensi kertaa pääsin sisälle Ronnien musiikkiin, mutta varmaa on, että hetkestä eteenpäin herra on toiminut itselläni merkittävänä esikuvana ja inspiraationa. Dio oli ennenkaikkea erinomainen laulaja, raskaan musiikin tukipilari, mahtava showmies ja hän tuli hyvin toimeen toisteen kanssa, jopa Ritchie Blackmoren. Ronnie ehti kuitenkin pyöriä musiikkibisneksessä jopa 53 vuotta (1957-2010) ja olisi varmasti pyörinyt vielä kauemminkin, jos suinkin olisi pystynyt, joten emme voi kuin olla kiitollisia siitä kaikesta musiikista, jonka hän on kanssamme jakanut.

Mulla on sellainen fiilis, että mulla on sitä jäbää nyt jo ikävä. :(
