vuonna 1999 bändi levytti demon fullmoon ja vähän ajan päästä bändi muuttikin nimensä sonata arctikaksi kesällä 1999 sonata arctica levytti ensimmäisen singlensä unopened ja hieman myöhemmin biisin mary lou
syksyllä 1999 bändi julkaisi ensimmäisen levynsä ecliptica johon kuuluivat biisit esim: cover:still loving you (scopions) ja iWant Out' (Helloween)
ja siitä bändi sitten jatkoi hyvin eteenpäin tähänkin paivään asti
