16-year-old killed in accident, vehicle fire

LOWELL-- A 16-year-old Caledonia teen is dead after an accident on a Kent County roadway.

Authorities with the Kent County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of an accident involving a vehicle fire around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

When they arrived just west of the intersection of 52nd Avenue and Alden Nash in Lowell, they found the vehicle off the roadway and on fire.

When they extinguished that blaze, they found that the 16-year-old Caledonia driver had been trapped and was dead.

An 18-year-old Alto resident, a passenger in that car, was thrown from the vehicle and has been taken to the hospital and found to be in stable condition.

Police believe the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed. They do not believe alcohol was a factor.

Police are not releasing the names of those involved.

Class of 2008, it happened..what we all were hoping wouldn't happen to any of our classmates. Over the years kids have died and left that empty gap in the hearts of their friends that nobody can replace after a tragedy occurs. We were supposed to be the class that graduates w/ all of our classmates...now that won't be possible since Nick has left us.
