Was it strange to say goodbye?
To step out of your world into the sky,
to fly, to slowly feel the countries passing by,
and dive, into a land of frozen darkness and blinding white,
and why___? why did we ever leave and say goodbye?
In Karkku we spent a week,
amongst some finnish freaks, and we asked
why are they so shy? whyÂ’s this bread made from rye?
and I think IÂ’m gonna
dieÂ…
From the sauna, the snow, the slippery stairs
and whoÂ’s in love with you?
but it was Saturday, time again to say goodbye.
When we crossed the border from finland to Russia
soldiers boarded us, the roads got rougher
the morning comfort of a cold brown shower
and we met our favourite tour guide Natasha

We learnt about the fountains of the fontaca river
ate caviar with disgusted laughter
The hermitage went on forever
as did that night, must have been the Russian water
A tired breakfast, palaces, large grey structures
Nevsky prospect and fur hat vendors
the circus lights, the final night
back in Finland
glad to be alive
see you in 6 weeks, goodbye

In we met and boarded the ferry
we woke up in the land of the enemy
Natasha joined again,
off Sweden there were 20 islands
The danes were a welcome view,
from that land of bikes we journeyed to
the land of dykes, not just the water type
and we slept in double beds at night
Cheesy smells began to emanate
we watched a statue urinate.

The Paris traffic made us late
but the Eiffel Tower was worth the wait
And we rode “the shit” out of that pony
We stunk out a perfume shop
and drunk some precious liqueur drops

The beach at Nice really rocked
We were proposed to discover Monaco
And Verona with Romeo oh Romeo
Venice Gondolas and a glass blowing show
We swam the beach and walked the streets
Thank God there was sand at Lido di Jesolo

A four hour mountain walk, a big piece of pork
Too much information on the second world war
The Berlin wall, a Cathedral
And EuropeÂ’s largest department store
Back in Sweden I felt a little homophobic
At last we sailed off into the foggy Baltic
And we hoped that we wouldnÂ’t cry,
Like our oldies when they said goodbye

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road,
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go,
So make the best of this test and donÂ’t ask why.
ItÂ’s not a question but a lesson learned in time.
ItÂ’s something unpredictable, but in the end itÂ’s right.
I hope you had the time of your life

It was odd to feel at home again
After 19 days to be alone again
At summer cottages at midsummer
And our oldies left us to take over
Hard to believe that 5 months has passed.
Since we were together on a rotary bus

This time headed for cold, darkness and snow
Lapland Harriniva, Muonio
You know the rest, IÂ’ll say no more
The memories are fresh, and the bruises still raw
When weÂ’ve left weÂ’ll know how much it means
To have you here and not just in our dreams

So take the photographs and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what itÂ’s worth, it was worth all the while
ItÂ’s something unpredictable, but in the end itÂ’s right
I hope you had the time of your life
IsnÂ’t it hard to say goodbye
To step out of our world into the sky,
To arrive, to lose ourselves in heat and blinding light
and find, that part of us is still here left behind,
I hope some day weÂ’ll meet again and say goodbye
Â… that this wonÂ’t be our last goodbye.... ....goodbye ........goodbye
