Ensihoitajat löysivät Jacksonin kotoaan tajuttomana, eikä hän hengittänyt. Paineluelvytyksen jälkeen Jackson vietiin sairaalaan klo 23 Suomen aikaa.

50-vuotiaan Jacksonin piti aloittaa pitkä konserttikiertue ensi kuussa. Kiertue olisi kestänyt maaliskuuhun asti.
