Forbidden to Forbid
hmmm. This was ok. Nothing special, but wasn't bad either. Students with problems, pot smoking, brazilian politics, bad cops etc.
Ano Una
Very interesting experimental film. This is full feature contsructed from photos only. No single shot has been shot with film camera or anything like that. Surprisingly it worked pretty well. Respetto!
Mister Lonely
Harmony Korine's latest... not as artsy or weird as some other stuff by him. This was almost mainstream... no, just kidding. Absurd dramacomedy with hilarious characters: there is Michael Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn, Madonna, The Three Stooges, Shirley Temple. Great cameos too: Herzog, Carax... and David Blaine...! lol! I Recommend.
Meander
Dutch (?) shortfilm that has... uhm children swimming. Then something happens, I think... Beautifully shot and good athmosphere but lacks something. aw fuck it... i dunno. Good shit. It looked so good that nothing else really matters!
Venus
Not the best film made from Hanif Kureishi's script but yet very good. Peter O'Toole is THE MAN.
Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten
Decent documentary film about one of the most important rock lyricists of our time. You are still here, Joe!
Dasepo Naughty Girls
Korean sexcomedy that's based on some comic strip in internet. If you watch this: forget the plot, since it is the weakest thing in the movie and concentrate on jokes only. AND did I mention... there is lot of girls in school uniforms in DNG... what else you need? :) Plus I've got the poster too! :D
El Corbador: In God We Trust
This was one weird film. Didnt understand the plot too much... But all that strange shit happening in the film was always interesting - in weird kinda way... Peter Fonda killing latinoladies with his car, "medical" rituals with embryos... goood stuff but I think I just did not get the basic idea...
Tabunfire - Dynamite Warrior
Better than your average thai-film... Fighting scenes were ok and the leading lady was BEAUTIFUL. <3
London To Brighton
Very solid debut film. One of the best movies I've seen this year. Great combination of that british realistic gangster film tradition and social commentary. Go watch it!
Daj Nipponjin
Funny japanese comedy about a guy who earns his living by fighting against 'Godzilla'-like monsters in television. Kinda wrestling meets godzilla... with laconic undertone. End of the film is funniest stuff ever. EVER!
Terror's Advocaat
Interesting but little bit pointless documentary film about a layer who has defended all kind of weird people in his career: Carlos, Algerian freedom fighters, members of RAF (not meaning royal airforce...:)). For those who already know something about the history of left wing radicalism in europe, there just isn't much to offer here.
Börn aka. Children
I haven't seen too many films from Iceland, but if the quality is this good I have to change that - and soon. Beautifully shot in B&W, Börn tells three different stories that come together towards the end. At times, film might be overtly pathetic or something, but all in all, very good movie. And I just read that many of the scenes were based on improvisation... so mucho respetto for the filmmakers!
Before Dawn
Hungarian short film. And a very very good one! Nails its simple story and idea perfectly.
Metallic Blues
Pretty much ok dramacomedy. Nothing special.
Zoo
Awful and lame documentary film filled with mediocre dramatisations. Avoid. One good line which saved a lot.
13 Tzameti
Fuckin A. Cynical film full of easteuropean angst.
Paprika
Good looking but shallow anime-entertainment. Fun to watch on big screen.
This Filthy World
Hilarious stuff from the man, John Waters.
Cocaine Cowboys
Interesting documentary film about rise and fall of Miami's late 70's and early 80's cocaine industry. Jan Hammer's score...
Bloody Tie
I have mixed feelings about this one. At times Bloody Tie is entertaining gangster film, but then at times it is sooo awful. Especially acting is mostly embarasing.
Triangle
Ok. collaboration with three major Hong Kong directors: Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam, Johnnie To. unfortunately with those guys on board, you would really expect more than "ok". And where the hell is the action?
Rampage
ok documentary film about three brothers living in ghetto in Miami.
Like a Dragon
Basic Miike-stuff. Not too violent, not too crazy. Family film perhaps?
Shotgun Stories
One of the greatest films i've seen this year.
Sønner
One of the best films at this years L&A. Story is about vigilante justice, pedophilia, retaliation. Strong stuff. Recommended for e1.
